Patriot Preparatory Academy welcomed author and artist Bol B. Aweng to our school on March 2, 2020. Mr. Aweng has a fascinating background. At only six years old, Bol was forced to flee his home in Sudan when civil war broke out. He, along with 35,000 other "Lost Boys of Sudan" embarked on a 1,500 mile journey in search of safety. He was faced with monumental challenges that often put his life at risk. Learning of his resilience, grit, and determination is something from which all of our students can benefit greatly.
In preparation for his visit, students were told the story of Bol Aweng and the Lost Boys through books, videos, and classroom activities. Each student received a set of footprints to decorate in order to visually represent Bol’s journey. Students also painted rocks to honor his rock art.
