School Closing and Distance Learning
Dear Patriot Preparatory Academy Family,

We appreciate your patience since the governor’s announcement last week to close schools for three weeks during which schools are expected to provide educational services.  As we are all aware, this health crisis is a very fluid situation, with things changing on a daily basis. Students are currently scheduled to return to school on Monday, April 6th, but we are making long-term plans for providing distance learning opportunities in case the break is extended.

Instruction will be provided through online formats and take home packets, based on the student's grade level, and you will receive communication from your child’s teacher about their specific instructional plan. Students will also be able to receive individualized instruction through ExactPath. Since students in 3rd through 12th grade will likely receive some instruction online, parents will need home internet access (Wi-Fi) and a device (laptop, chromebook, etc.).

Internet Access - through home Wi-Fi, mobile hotspot, or new internet service (Spectrum, 1-844-488-8395, is offering FREE 100MB internet for 60 days for families of K-12 students)
Device - home computer, laptop, chromebook, or tablet. If you don’t have a device at home, you can sign out a chromebook from the school (charges will apply for loss or damage).

The school will be open on Tuesday (3/24) from 8am to 6pm if you need to sign out a school chromebook (3rd-12th) or need to get items out of classrooms or lockers.  All devices or items must be picked up on this scheduled day.  Take home packets may be picked up at this time as well, but can be mailed home if needed.  Any packets not picked up after Tuesday will be mailed.

Assignments will be posted to Progress Book and/or Google Classroom. Students will be required to log in and complete work daily as well as check their student email account multiple times throughout the day. The school office will be available for phone calls from 8:30am-3:15pm Monday-Friday beginning March 23rd, but will not be open to the public during this time. You may email your child’s teacher(s) if you have additional questions.

We greatly appreciate your continued support and patience through this challenging health crisis and will continue to do all we can to prepare our students academically for their future. We have also created a page on our website for updates and resources that can be accessed at http://www.patriotprep.com/DistanceLearning.aspx . We will be adding additional resources and information as we prepare for distance learning to begin on Wednesday, March 25th.

Sincerely,

Sean Smith
Superintendent
